I was inspired to write the next poem because sometimes the tongue is a double edge sword. What we say to others can hurt or it can give them peace. You have the ability to use your words to build a person up or tear him down. Which would you like to do?
The Power of Words
Have you never noticed the sadness in someone’s eyes?
Or the look of bliss and/or wondrous surprise
Over a statement which you spontaneously have said
Your words can bring great joy or the deepest of dread
To someone who truly loves you most of all
And those words can cause them to slip and fall
Into a melancholy mood that is unhappy and filled with dread.
Or they can lift one up to float with the Angels in Heaven instead.
Have you never been hurt by the words of another?
Something said by a loved one like your sister or brother?
If his words can sting you when he says them to you
Do you not think your words can leave scars on him too?
True Love is generous and kind and good
When guided by love your words make it understood
They provoke love in return and drive sadness away
This is why we should search our hearts for the right things to say.
Don’t yell out in anger or return hurt for pain.
If your brother speaks in anger love God and refrain
From words of revenge that can only return
To more words of hatred and more hurt that can burn
They burn your heart and your soul and make you forget all the love
That Jesus died for when he hung on the cross above.
Beneath him were the crowds who yelled angry thoughts and curses.
Instead you should dwell on Gods psalms and his versus.
Be happy my friend and chose your words well
For anger is what feeds the fires that have created Hell
Love is the answer to all that we do
So speak out with love and may God bless you.
The following does not rhyme but I just wanted to explain something I have learned about my favorite of all bibles versus.
The Lord is my Shepherd!
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
Before King David was ever a king he was a shepherd. He wrote this psalm because he knew what a shepherd had to do to keep his flock fed.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures.
The shepherd leads the sheep where the grass is good and edible.
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
The waters are still so the sheep will not be swept away while drinking. They are truly in need of someone to lead them where it is safe for they know not how to find those places themselves.
He restoreth my soul.
The shepherd looks after the sheep. If one becomes sick it is he who will nurse them it to health.
He leadeth me in the ways of righteousness for his namesake.
Sheep are by nature, rather stupid. They can find themselves wondering off the path only to get lost and if nobody is there to help them they will die in the wilderness.
The Shepherd is there to guide them out of the wilderness to those green pastures once more.
Yea, though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil
For thou art with me.
The sheep will learn quickly to trust the shepherd, who will save them from would-be attackers or their own temptation to eat poison’s food.
Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
The shepherd uses the rod as a tool to prod the sheep in the right direction when they would otherwise wonder off and get lost. It also steadies the shepherd and gives him a tool to fight off any foe to the sheep.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.
The shepherd walks behind the sheep prodding them when they wonder off and keeping them safe as they travel the trail.
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
At the end of the trail is life everlasting. A place where there is nothing but green pastures. Nothing but still waters and nothing but eternal beauty.
I am among all men, most richly blessed:
That, my friend, explains itself.
The truly interesting thing is we are like the sheep. We need the shepherd. We need someone who can see where we are heading with our lives before we destroy ourselves. We need to trust him and we need to respond humbly to the staff which prods us to correct our ways.
Just one touch of his hands can heal your every sore.
Enter into his Fold and live in peace ever more.
Salvation is a gift from the father and the son
Understanding his forgiveness is the first step to a race well run.
Say to our Lord, I give you my all.
Carry the heavy burden no more because you heard him call.
He is the truth, the light and the word.
Read of his love but more importantly, live it each day.
I will lead you, he says. I will show you the way.
So be you not doubtful or troubled by whatever life brings to you.
This too will pass, he says. I will see you through.
JESUS CHRIST
My Lord and My Savior!
I believe I was in the ninth grade when I did a book report on the book, “Animal Farm,” by George Orwell. The book was a fantasy about farmyard animals who wanted equality. This is a battle we still fight today. Equality means no matter what our religion, race or national background we are all Americans and entitled to be treated fairly.
The book Animal Farm was written about the plight of so many who do not receive the fair treatment that we all are entitled to. The next poem sums up what I understood from the book:
They Stood and Watched
They stood outside the farmhouse, looking through the dusty window pane.
Their eyes were focused on what was going inside but their hopes were all in vain.
They could see the farmer and the pigs as they talked inside the house.
They had worked for total equality from the horse to the tiny mouse.
These were not the pigs who had led the way to freedom for each and every one.
They were the great-great grandchildren now forgetting all the good that was done.
The other animals could not hear for the meeting was held behind a closed door.
“It is a ba-ad state affair,” said the sheep “They care for us no more.”
“I truly thought they would keep equality alive but Naay, this is not true.”
This came from the horse that stood outside and watch with nothing else to do.
Said the lamb, “It’s a world gone mad and it’s everyone for himself it seems.”
“It seems the leaders have to soon forgotten all our wondrous dreams.
“Why do we stand here and mooan,” said the cow to the rest.”
She said, “We should make our voices heard and tell them what we think is what is best.
Tell them all animals are created equal just as our forefathers taught.
If we forget this important fact our lives are lived in fault.
Let’s tell the pigs and the farmer, too that we still believe in democracy.
Let them know if they give us less they are guilty of great hypocrisy.
This is a book of poetry of inspirational
and spiritual meaning along with
memories and thoughts about our
every day life.
