Seasonal Changes
I was out riding today and I noticed the clouds are moving higher in the sky.
It is as if they are saying, “We need to make room” but for what I wonder why.
The sky is changing its hue. It is now a different shade of blue.
I scanned the mountains and admired the trees for they are changing, too.
Until now, the colors have been subtle, just barely enough to see.
Now the leaves are turning to red and yellow, some dropping and quietly blowing all around me.
The temperature is taking on that special chill that only comes with September.
As I admire God’s handiwork, I now pause, contemplate and remember.
As children my brothers and I would rake the leaves into a single pile.
Once the pile was high enough we would dive into them for a while.
Eventually we would tire of this game and our Mother would make a demand.
Those leaves needed to bagged and burned as per her command.
Along with the chore we were told to do, we received a wonderful treat.
As the autumn breeze fanned the burning leaves we planned for something sweet.
We found some sticks and took a bag of marshmallows, a gift from mother dear.
Roasted marshmallows were a treat to enjoy, one more blessing of this time of year.
Now I have grown older but I still have memories that are sweet.
My memories include the birth of spring as well as the summer heat.
It also includes the autumn breeze which cools the earth, preparing her for rest.
After this came snowy winters with icicles and winds with rising zest.
Winter, summer, spring or fall, I know not which I love the best.

Life Revived
Spring has sprung. The grass has riz. I think I’ll go where the birdies is.
Okay, so that is not quite grown-up poetry. Let me try again.

I stroll through the wooded area and see way up high
The birds in flight as they gracefully glide by.
I see a cardinal on the top limb of an old oak tree.
He has found the perfect vantage point from which to see.
I watch a robin tethering his nest.
It will serve him well as a place to rest.
Then a strike of lightning and the thunders roar
Causes the birds to take flight… flap their wings and sour.
They will find a place to keep dry during the oncoming rain.
But they seem to have no doubts and feel no distain.
The rain that falls is greeted by the trees.
They happily dance to the rhythm of the breeze.
The rain brings life and as it comes to an end
The sun shines through, it’s warmth to send.
All this is part of life’s rebirth.
The rain and sun work to give life back to the earth.
Once more I hear the chirping of the birds as they fly.
I see the clouds that are now white and float across the sky.
Each breath I take is a gift from the creator of all…
The spring… the summer, winter and fall.

One time I decided I wanted to take off and fly into outer space.
Instead I lost my balance and fell hard, flat on my face.
I guess I am meant to be a land creature till the Lord comes and grants me wings.
Like an Angel who praises God, rejoices and proudly sings.
What a thrill that will be to be given the wings of an angel and the joy of eternity.
What a joy is will be to sup with the master beyond that shining sea.
Until then I think I will not be so stupid as to try to fly away from the Earth.
The problems which that would surely cause me are greater than their worth.
God has taught me patience; the greatest virtue of them all.
When I am given his wondrous gift of eternal life I will fly and never fall.
Wait upon the Lord my friend. The gift of love holds us in place.
Heaven is beautiful and will be found somewhere beyond outer space.
